Library/EdTech OER Initiative
In 2017, the Library/EdTech Committee funded a grant to raise awareness of open access textbooks. Open access textbooks are available for free online and, in some cases, print copies are available at low cost from campus bookstores or print-on-demand services. They have been adopted by a growing number of colleges and universities, providing substantial cost savings for students and ensuring equitable access to course materials. To explore the feasibility of open access textbooks for the LC community, we offered incentives to faculty in mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology to review an existing work and contribute their findings to this guide.
