Welcome to Watzek Library! This course guide is designed for students in Will Pritchard's Core 120 class, Satire.
If you have questions this semester about research or navigating library tools and collections, please don't hesitate to contact me, Elaine Hirsch. For small questions, email me at elaineghirsch@lclark.edu. Consider booking a research consultation for more involved questions, or if you'd like to look at something together.
Watzek keeps a copy of most required texts on reserve, which means that they may be borrowed for short periods (usually 3 hours; regular, non-reserve items may be borrowed for 12 weeks).
Primo is our all-purpose search tool that allows you to find books, media, ebooks, and articles at Watzek. It will also show you results at other libraries in the Pacific Northwest, which you can request to be delivered to Watzek for free.
In addition to Primo, Watzek subscribes to more than 200 databases that give you more sophisticated control over your searching.
A research consultation is a one-on-one conversation between you and a librarian; you can choose to meet in person or virtually. You might think of a consultation as analogous to tutoring. We can discuss your questions, use search tools together, talk about how to find books in the library, or anything else that will help you. You don't need to have a polished research question: my colleagues and I are happy to meet with you at any stage.
When you prefer not to make an appointment, you can find us ready to chat at the Research Help desk on weekdays between 12 and 4, or online when you see the orange "Chat" symbol on the library website.
