Admin Policies: Library Classroom

Library and Information Technology Use of the Library Classroom

The primary purpose of the library classroom is to provide a space for library and information technology instruction. Watzek Library and IT staff also reserve the room for meetings, workshops, and other events. For this reason, library and IT staff have priority for reserving the room and will be the primary users of this room, particularly on weekdays.

To schedule library instruction in the classroom, please contact your library liaison.

Reserved Use of the Library Classroom

Members of the Lewis & Clark community (students, faculty, staff) may request to reserve the classroom for academic purposes. Considerations for reservation approval include classroom availability, academic purpose, and the necessity for smart classroom technology.  Direct inquiries to Watzek Library at watzek@lclark.edu.

Reservation Guidelines:

  • Library and IT staff have priority for reserving the room and will be the primary users of this room, particularly on weekdays.
  • Requests are considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Weeknight and weekend reservations are more likely to be accepted.
  • In order to provide equitable access to the library classroom, groups may not reserve recurring events more than once a week.
  • Weekday requests are generally not accepted more than one week in advance of the reservation date.
  • Use of the instructor workstation, projector, and MOBY cart needs to be specifically requested.
  • Reserved events may be asked to relocate if the room is needed for library or IT instruction.

Use Guidelines:

  • Keep classroom doors closed—noise travels, and the space right outside of the classroom is a quiet zone.
  • Rearrange furniture, but do not remove it or bring furniture from other locations into the classroom.
  • Use the wide-screen monitor and the whiteboards. Whiteboard markers and erasers may be checked out at the circulation desk.
  • Arrange ahead of time to use the MOBY cart, the instructor station, or the projector.
  • Room should be left orderly and clean.

Drop-in Use of the Library Classroom

The Watzek Library Classroom is located in room 245 on the second floor. When it is not reserved, Watzek Library users (students, faculty, staff, visitors) may use it during library open hours. The Administrative Coordinator will print a daily schedule of classroom reservations to be posted outside of the classroom each weekday morning. This is a courtesy so that drop-in users will know when the room is reserved and unavailable. Please note that the schedule may change after posting.

Use Guidelines:

  • Consult the daily schedule of classroom reservations, which is posted outside of the classroom, to determine the room's availability.
  • Keep classroom doors closed—noise travels and the space right outside of the classroom is a quiet zone.
  • Rearrange furniture, but do not remove it or bring furniture from other locations into the classroom.
  • Share the space with others as space/activity permits.
  • Use the wide-screen monitor and the whiteboards but please do not use the MOBY cart, the instructor station, or the projector. Whiteboard markers and erasers may be checked out at the circulation desk.
  • No food allowed and covered drinks only (same as policy in other areas of the library).
  • If asked by library or IT staff or others with reservations, please vacate the room.
  • Room should be left orderly and clean.
