Artist Statement

Photography’s aptitude for investigating landscape has evolved with the history of the medium. Since its inception, many photographic practioneers have
fixated on monumental landscape that offered the viewer an experience of “being
there.” While paying homage to the history of such imagery my work aims to
challenge those conventions by representing the landscape in both idyllic and less
than-ideal spaces and non-spaces. As photography often reflects a given moment
in our existence, my images both literally and metaphorically speak to a moment of
crisis by representing the periphery of those moments we cherish, but that are now
threatened by environmental changes brought on by humanity.
