The Jean Ward Collection on Gender Studies was established to recognize the many contributions of Jean M. Ward, Professor of Communication at Lewis & Clark College. Jean was a founder of the Gender Studies Symposium at Lewis & Clark. She also was the founder and initial director of the Gender Studies Program at the College.

The idea of a special collection in gender studies has evolved over several years with the intent to provide several key, and in most cases rare, resources in support of the Gender Studies curriculum and other studies at the College. The recent donation of items represented in this exhibit became the impetus to bring the collection together. These works will be augmented by other items already in Special Collections, including books and manuscript materials. Other items will be added to the collection through acquisition and donations. It is the hope that Lewis & Clark students, faculty, and staff, as well as many others, will use these materials for research and learning opportunities.
