PubChem consists of three databases: Compound, Substance and BioAssay. Compound and Substance database records provide basic physical data, attributes important in drug discovery, and structures; Substance describes samples containing one or more compounds, whereas Compound describes specific molecules. BioAssay provides datasets of compound bioactivity against various targets; to date, nearly all datasets are cancer screens from the National Cancer Institute.
