About Biology
The goal of the Biodiversidad of Ecuador course is to help students become aware of the great variety of wild species and ecosystems we have in this country, and the necessity for education, care and conservation. During the course we will explore four theoretical and practical themes that we expect students to understand in depth:
(1) How the country's unique location, great forces of nature such as the Andes Mountains, ocean currents and solar radiation contribute to the mega-biodiversity of Ecuador. (2) What is biodiversity? The processes of evolution and adaptation of species that create diversity. (3) What is an ecosystem? How an ecosystem functions and maintains its status, and the variety of ecosystems in Ecuador. (4) What is the relationship between biodiversity and humans, and what are the threats biodiversity faces?
