Introduction to Architecture

In this section, we would like to focus on specific structures and architectural elements that build and preserve public memory in the city of Siena. We hope to describe various architectural works analysing their characteristics, but also looking into the purpose of these buildings: with special attention to who commissioned these projects and why.

Furthermore, we find the structure of the city particularly interesting: narrow streets, closed and open spaces, etc. Its walls serve both to protect Sienese identity and to distinguish it from other cities. This is particularly interesting to observe today since the city of Siena has long been extended beyond its original city walls.
