Exhibit of Books from Lewis & Clark’s First Library

Albany LibraryThis exhibit in the Library Atrium explores the early intellectual culture of the College. "A Selection of Interesting Books from Lewis & Clark's First Library" highlights a number of titles rediscovered during the past year when Lewis & Clark librarians began a thorough review of the College's library holdings. The exhibited books are from the College's first library in Albany, Oregon (1867-1942). On display through May 31, 2010.

From Aurora to Rajneeshpuram: Oregon’s Communal History Exhibit

eden within Aubrey Watzek Library offers a glimpse into Oregon’s communal past in this exhibit on display in the Library Atrium.

The exhibit is inspired by the publication of Eden Within Eden: Oregon’s Utopian Heritage (Oregon State University Press, 2009) by Library Director Jim Kopp and the annual conference of the Communal Studies Association being held in Aurora on October 1-3, 2009. The exhibit has been a collaborative effort of several institutions and individuals. Materials for the exhibit come from the Aurora Colony Historical Society, Special Collections of the University of Oregon, Watzek Library, and Jim Kopp’s personal collection. Special thanks to Patrick Harris, Curator at the Aurora Colony Historical Society, and Linda Long, Manuscripts Librarian at the University of Oregon for their assistance and for loaning materials for the exhibit. On display through December 31, 2009.

Johannah Sherrer Memorial Lecture

dean_betsywilson_2008_crop Betsy Wilson, Dean of Libraries at the University of Washington, will share her experiences and vision on Friday, September 25 at 3 pm in Smith Hall. Her lecture, entitled Straws in the Wind: Emerging Models of Library Service, will present a compelling case for new models of library service, a lively examination of early pilots and exemplars, and collective opportunities for innovation and exploration. North Korea Photo Exhibit

northkorea A new photo exhibit in the Library represents an effort to put a human face on a nation that has been looked on as an enemy by the U.S. for half a century. Sponsored by the Korean Peace Project, which seeks normalization of relationships between the United States and North Korea, these photos seek to educate people about the Korean Conflict and remind us of our connectedness. Photos are by Eric Sirotkin.
