The Gerritsen Collection Online

gerritsencollection Watzek Library has purchased the Gerritsen Collection Online. This resource provides full-text access to the 4700 books, pamphlets and periodicals on women's history spanning four centuries and 15 languages. The collection reflects the revolution of feminist consciousness and the movement for women's rights. At left: Vida Milholland of New York City was arrested at the White House in Washington, D.C., July 4, 1917, while picketing for women's right to vote; she served three days in District Jail.

Film Scholars Rejoice!

filmscholars Watzek Library now has access to the Film Literature Index, the first periodical index devoted to the literature of film, designed for the scholar, the student, and the general reader. It annually indexes 150 film and television periodicals from 30 countries cover-to-cover and 200 other periodicals selectively for articles on film and television. The Film Literature Index is known for its comprehensive indexing system that includes more than 2,000 subject headings for detailed analysis of articles and reviews.

Streaming video

streamingvideo You can watch some of the latest additions to the Library's video collection without coming to the library, or checking them out. Watzek Library has subscribed to 19 videos from FMG on Demand. These are educational titles such as: "You only live twice; virtual reality meets real world in Second Life", "Freakonomics with Levitt and Dubner", and "Battle of the Brains; the case for multiple intelligences". (Note that viewing a video in the full screen mode doesn't work on Macs - yet).

Library of Congress, Meet Flickr!

locflicker The Library of Congress has joined forces with Flickr, the popular photo hosting site, to share its remarkable collection of early 20th century photographs. The LOC hopes users from around the world will enrich the image descriptions by contributing tags and comments. Check out the images here, or as a slideshow.
