Publication Studio & Elizabeth Jaeger (LC, 2011) will present Jaeger’s recent book, How Other People See Me on Monday May 2, at 3 pm, in the Library Classroom. Stop by for special snacks and hear Jaeger discuss her artistic process, project, and recent book launch.
How Other People See Me is a project Jaeger first presented in Garrick Imatani’s senior seminar class. Jaeger then began working with Publication Studio to print copies of her book. Of the project, she says, “It’s kind of a sculptural book in so far that I am framing a self portrait through the collected gazes of people I know. In some images it seems that the person is definitely angry, annoyed or bored with me, in others it seems to have captured a certain bond. All of the photos are closeups from old snapshots I have where the people don’t quite know they’re being photographed, in hopes that I have secretly captured their unperformed feelings for me based on the way they look at me. Usually it’s photos secretly taken after an initial Kodak moment photo or closeups of the person standing behind the subject.” Images of this book, and Jaeger’s other projects, can be seen at her website.
