Looking for Primary Documents?

In the First Person is a brand new, free, professionally published index of more than 3,350 collections of documents. The collections include letters, diaries, oral histories, and other personal narratives in English from around the world. You can do a keyword search of more than 650,000 pages of full-text by more than 15,000 individuals from all walks of life. Think of it as one-stop-shopping for searching thousands of repositories and archives—hundreds of thousands of pages of edited content. The index also contains pointers to some 3,500 audio and video files. For example, a search of video documents using “communist party” as a subject yielded results from the Communist Party Oral History Interviews. Five videos from the Communism in Washington State History and Memory Project are available to view. For future reference, you can find this new resource on the library’s of A-Z list of databases. Or use the links above to check it out now.
