Library Support for Academic English Studies
Watzek Library provides AES students and faculty with personalized library services by way of our librarian liaison program. Kate Rubick, Instruction Services Librarian, has served as the liaison librarian for AES since 2007, and she is sensitive to the significant challenges, both language and cultural, faced by AES students using American academic libraries for the first time.
Kate works with AES faculty to make sure that the library builds and maintains collections relevant to AES curricula and appropriate for the various reading levels of AES students. In addition, the librarian liaison helps coordinate the cataloging of AES materials, e.g. readers, to ensure they are convenient for AES students to access. Please send collection recommendations to Kate Rubick.
Getting research help
Kate is available for personalized research consultations. In addition other research librarians are happy to help faculty and students find the information they need at the reference desk. Take a look at the AES research guide to see library resrouces expecially useful to AES students.
Kate regularly partners with AES faculty to offer sessions designed to engage students in all levels of discovery and use of information resources. Instruction is tailored to the information need(s) and English abilities of the students and emphasizes active learning as well as discussion and demonstration. We also design web-based, course-specific research guides routinely for AES courses. Please contact Kate Rubick to schedule a session for your class.
